Dan Cameron
BLA (Hons.), NZILA
I have a range of skills across the Design, Planning & Policy aspects of Landscape Architecture. Coming from a rural background in the South Island High Country, I pursued a career in Landscape Architecture to combine my passions for design and the natural environment, its physical form and the many complex ecosystems that exist within it. Since graduating from Lincoln University I’ve worked extensively on design & environmental restoration projects for local government, as well as landscape design projects for private clients.
I have to confesses to being a serial optimist, and I thrive on the opportunity to meet and work with new clients and other talented professionals. I speak the language of the farming community and enjoy applying my expertise in the agricultural sector, just as much as exercising my creative talents in the design of spaces to suit a wide range of needs.
My Business – Partnering with you
DCLA stands for Dan Cameron Landscape Architecture, and represents Landscape Architecture with a difference. I serve my clients by going beyond the conventional realm of the Landscape Architect to deliver comprehensive and ecologically appropriate restoration solutions to the agricultural sector, as well as intuitive design solutions to new and existing property owners.
I focus on practicing ethical business before “big” business, and choose to act with the community in mind. Through my work I support various community led initiatives around sustainability, community resilience and youth-led environmental initiatives.
As well as being being punctual, reliable, results driven & determined to deliver value for money, here’s how my service differs from the rest:
- I offer Landscape Architectural services in many different aspects of the profession – not just garden plans. I love busting the many myths around Landscape Architecture as a discipline… we are much more than just gardeners!
- Relateable. I strongly emphasize the relationships I build with each client, and speak plain language to in order to do this – not excessive jargon
- Practical. I relate to and actively seek feedback from the men & women on the ground who construct my designs
- Interpretation. I am an expert in translating ideas and needs into tangible results that best reflect the initial requirements
- Strategic. I collaborate with each client early to formulate a pathway to the desired outcome or set of outcomes using the resources that are available. We can then project manage this strategy to a high level of detail to help make sure the end result is on time and on budget.
- Forensic. With almost any project there are extensive hidden stories, histories and features of the site that make every project unique. Taking a forensic approach creates a solid foundation upon which to formulate a design that responds most appropriately to its context and therefore function. (cafes, vistor centres, function/events centres & venues, parks, reserves, historic or culturally significant sites, etc)
